Walking Into The New Year

As midnight approaches, we walk the winding path in silence. Moonlight shines from above and the golden flames of candles encircle the labyrinth. The sky is clear and starry but for a few wisps of cloud. The air is chilly, yet still, clouds of breath billowing before us. Patches of snow on the ground glow in the darkness.
As we arrive in the center, face one another, and clasp each other’s hands, fireworks rumble through the neighborhood and colorful aerial displays burst in the distance. People whoop and holler. Dogs howl. Quail are flushed in fright. A lone mallard quacks frantically by. And geese rise from their slumber and take flight, honking into the night. It’s the New Year! As we follow the path out of the labyrinth, calm eventually resumes and peace settles over our neighborhood.
Wishing you peace for the New Year!
